Geng Le is a Chinese gay man, who has become a founder of one of the biggest gay dating apps – Blued with a $130 million potential and about 40 million users. His personal experience helped him to create a platform that many homosexual people all around the world were looking for. Geng has served as a police officer in Hebei province in China and was married to a woman for many years. Until once, he decided to secretly launch a gay dating app as he had long been a closeted gay man. After he was outed, his employer asked Geng to shut down the website if he wants to remain employed. The man was outraged and did not accept the ultimatum. Instead, he decided to quit the job, divorce his wife and devote himself fully to the development of his new website Blued, as an out gay man now.
Geng was thinking: “According to the statistics, 1.4 billion people live in China and about 140 million people of them can potentially be representatives of the LGBT community. It turns out to be a large enough community to support an entire economy of its own.” Time went on, Blued has become a successful business, but Geng felt a void in his soul. When Chinese man reached the age of 40, he understood that his biggest desire is to become a father. At that time he was happy in gay relationships with another man. Geng became a first-time dad with the help of a surrogacy agency in California, USA, in March 2017, and at the moment gay man is using his app to help other gay Chinese men start their families, too. He renamed Blued on Bluedbaby and started using it for family building purposes. Surrogacy is not a cheap service and there are a lot of challenges with finding an egg donor, selecting a surrogate or signing surrogacy contracts. But with the help of Bluedbaby, many Chinese gay men received better chances of finding happiness in fatherhood.
